-The Official EXPO Center for Davos Summer World Economy Forum 2007 and 2009

The Dalian World Expo Center represents the culmination of 100 years of economic development in Dalian. An outstanding feat of modern architecture, the center stands as a beacon of hope for the dramatic achievements that await Dalian in the 21st century.

The Dalian World Expo Center overlooks Asia’s largest square, Xinghai Square. It is located in one of Dalian’s five open business districts, the Xinghai Bay Financial Business District. The center is conveniently located only 10 kilometers from the Dalian International Airport, 5 kilometers from the railway station, 8 kilometers from the harbor, and 12 kilometers from the Dalian-Shenyang expressway.

The Dalian World Expo Center was designed by French architect Emmanuel Delarue from EDDS. This outstanding building combines elements of classical Chinese architecture with many international features. The center offers services for exhibitions, conferences, catering, tourism, and business meetings. All these services merged into one center make it the ideal place to organize large-scale exhibitions and conferences.

The hall of the center can hold over 3,500 people; it is equipped with a 100 square meter LED screen to broadcast activities directly at the scene. The center can accommodate conferences with over 10,000 attendees. There are 28 fixed meeting rooms, with up to 65 more rooms available on demand through partitioning. In all aspects of the building design the architect strove to combine elegance with practical functionality. Innovative in its use of color, the building seamlessly merges unique grey and red to contrast with the central hall’s glass curtain wall. Multiple refracted lights create a spectacular effect.

The center is the ideal place not only for conferences and exhibitions, but also for meetings. At the end of 2007, the Dalian World Expo Center had hosted 560 meetings. “From Davos to Dalian: the Annual Meeting of New Champion” was held in the center in September in 2007 and 2009. The Expo Center is also the first convention center in China to host the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao attended the opening ceremony and made a speech. More than 1,700 politicians, business leaders, experts and scholars from 90 countries met to discuss the business model and the latest technology. Other meetings held in the World Expo Center include: WTO informal mini-ministerial meeting, 20 Consortiums Ministers meeting, China International Textile Garment Expo opening ceremony, and a theatrical performance to commemorate the 60th anniversary of victory of the war.

The Dalian World Expo Center enjoys state of the art facilities, world class services and an efficient administration. Building on Dalian’s established exhibition industry, the World Expo Center will evolve as the venue of choice for conventions and exhibitions in China. It marks a new era in the evolution of China’s exhibition industry.
